Copy Stores Overview
This tutorial goes over using the functionality for Copying Stores. Copying a store allows you to take an existing store that you may like the design, products offered, and various settings, and use that again for a new store. Copying the store makes it so you don't have to start from scratch at all and will carry over most settings when you copy an existing store. The following settings are included when copying a store specifically:
| Features | Add-ons | Products & Categories | Design |
| Inventory | Demo Store | Products | Current Design Option* |
| Guest Checkout | Virtual Samples | Setup | Sitewide Selections |
| Custom Payments | Custom Store | Inventory | Header Details |
| Store Notes | Logo Locations | Layout Specifications | |
| Categories | Site Colors | ||
| Product Options | Content | ||
| Size Charts | Footer Details |
Note*: We recommend contacting our storeart team should you have questions on ensuring a customization on a copied store works as intended. Design time may be incurred and they will let you know.
Copy an Existing Store
To start with copying a store, first login to your Company Stores account and then access your Sites listing. Once here, you'll see a "Copy" icon on each site in your account.
Step 1: Click that button to begin copying the store
Step 2: In the pop-up/modal window appearing, click "Copy" to begin copying the store.
Step 3: A new notification will appear letting you know the site copy is in progress.
Step 4: You will see a final notification when the store has completed copying. However, please note that settings such as products, and templates are still in progress of being copied (see below article sections).
Products
Depending on the # of products and categories, and all relevant settings under the products, it may take time for the system to fully process all products and have them copied. As such, you may notice that a store copy has been completed, but the Products & Categories tab in your newly generated store is greyed out; rest assured, this is intentional and once the system finishes copying products and all other settings, this tab will be accessible.
Templates
Similarly to products, templates can take time to copy so this tab may not be accessible yet until it's fully copied. Once all published/unpublished templates have been copied. You can go in and modify the store design.
Additionally, if you had customizations included on your templates, those will be copied, but the Revert history will NOT be copied. This is because the Revert history is stored to a template on a specific site; so copying a template (or in essence, downloading it and uploading it to a new store) is creating a new Revert history under that newly copied store. Finally, you may need to work with our Storeart team on submitting any customization adjustments; while some customizations may carry over without requiring adjustments in code files, some customizations may be tied to a specific store's subdomain, or ID unique to a store that our Storeart team has to adjust to accommodate this for the new store. You can submit this form should you need our Storeart team's assistance.
Last Steps
Copying an existing Company Store is a great way to take a store you spent a lot of time on designing, and building out, and then easily duplicating it for other clients. You could (in theory) have a store that you use as your "base template" and then copy it as you start new stores to give yourself a leg-up in the store-building process to reduce the manual work involved with copying settings offer. The best thing we can recommend as always when launching a brand new store, is thoroughly testing it and placing test orders to ensure it works as intended. We have this article which is a helpful checklist that we recommend reviewing in instances you're copying a store and attempting to get it launched soon.
Notes About Copied Stores
- Users, Groups (Permissions included), and Integration settings will not be copied over.
- When a store is copied, it will be at the same pricing tier as the store copied, but they will be in demo mode which incurs reduced hosting fees.
- Add-ons enabled on the store that's being copied will also be enabled on the newly created store copy.
