This article walks through setting up Custom Data Collections. This feature allows for collecting additional information from the shopper on the checkout page. This is in additional to the standard shipping, payment and address information already available. For example, using a custom data collection you can collect an order fee, or ask the shopper to indicate if they have any notes for the order itself.

Notes and Examples on Custom Data Collections
This section goes over examples and various notes/call-outs of using Custom Data collections and what pieces of data you can collect (or how to use this):
- Editing Submitted Custom Data Collection Details: It is not possible to edit submitted text, or a selection within the custom data collection area of an order.
- Capturing Notes on Orders: If you need to allow a spot for users to submit optional notes for an order, Custom Data Collections is a good way to capture this information. When setting up a custom data collection, you would specifically use the "New Text" option.
-
Assess an Additional Order Fee: If you need to add an additional flat ($) or percentage (%) amount to the order's subtotal, you can do this by using a custom data collection with a "modifier." When a custom data collection has a modifier, this means when that is filled out, the price modifier increases the order subtotal by the value input (i.e. if you input a 3% price modifier, the order subtotal will have a fee added in at roughly 3% of the order's subtotal value)
- This is a good way to capture a processing fee, or handling fee.
-
Conditional Checkout: While this does require custom design, if you need certain shipping addresses, shipping methods, billing addresses, or payment methods to only be conditionally shown/hidden based on a user's custom data selection, this is doable. For example, we can make this so a user is asked: Is this order for Business or Personal Use?:
- Personal: Using custom design, we could make this so they have to enter their own address, and must pay for shipping, and can only pay by credit card.
-
Business: Using custom design, we could make this so they cannot enter an address, but have to select from a list of available locations, and shipping can be waived (or a specific shipping method used), and we can show other methods of payment except credit card.
