Custom Data Collections

This article walks through setting up Custom Data Collections. This feature allows for collecting additional information from the shopper on the checkout page. This is in additional to the standard shipping, payment and address information already available.

Add a Custom Data Collection

  1. Access the Settings Page.
  2. Click into the Custom Data Collections section.
  3. Click the New Custom Data Collection button.

Setup a Custom Data Collection

Add the Title and Price Modifier for the Custom Data Collection. 

In this example, we are asking the shopper if they want a gift box for their order. 

  1. The Setup page will appear.
  2. Enter a Title for the Custom Data Collection (see example below for where the Title of the Custom Data Collection appears).
    • Regarding Price Modifiers - A price modifier charges the shopper the specified amount when they respond to the Custom Data Collection. 
  3. Price Modifier Type - If adding a price modifier, choose if the price will be calculated on a flat dollar amount ($) or percentage (%) of the order. 
  4. Price Modifier - Enter the price modifier dollar or percentage amount. 
  5. Save - Click to submit changes. 

Add Fields to a Custom Data Collection (Select Option Setup)

This example goes over the Select option, which allows the user to select from a drop down of options, as opposed to typing in their response. In this example, we are asking the shopper to respond yes or no if they want a gift box. 

  1. Access the Fields section.
  2. Click New Select - This option provides the user with a drop-down list of responses to select from. This option was selected in this example.
  3. Label - Enter a question or instructions for the user.
  4. Multiselect- When enabled, the user can choose more than one response from the drop-down options. 
  5. Required - When enabled, the user must respond to the question. When disable, the user can bypass the question.
  6. Click add new option.
  7. Type in the first response the user can select. To add another response, repeat steps 6 and 7. 
  8. Save - Click to save these fields. 
  9. Save- Click to save changes to this Custom Data Collection.

Here is an example of what a Select type Custom Data Collection looks like on the checkout page.

Add Fields to a Custom Data Collection (Text Option Setup)

This example goes over the Text option, which allows the user to type in a response rather than select from pre-set drop-down responses.

  1. Access the Fields section.
  2. Click New Text - This option allows the user to type in their response. This option was selected in this example.
  3. Label - Enter the instructions for the user (a hint for what they should enter).
  4. Type - Select Text Field (input area is displayed as a line) or Text Area (input area is displayed as a box).
  5. Required - When enabled, the user must respond to the question. When disable, the user can bypass the question.
  6. Save- Click to save these fields.
  7. Submit - Click to save changes to this Custom Data Collection.

Change the Custom Data Collections Section Title

The section header (illustrated below) can be customized to meet your requirements.

Use Checkout Options to custom the Custom Data Collections section title.

  1. Navigate to the Settings page.
  2. Click into the Checkout Options section.
  3. Custom Data Collections Name  - Enter the new name of the section here. 
  4. Save - Click to submit the change. 

The Custom Data Collection Section Title will now appear as "Instructions".
